"Got the wireless pad? Get this!" by Turrican C64, from Wolverhampton, England - 24 April 2006

Overall Rating:5 out of 5Recommended

On the scale of game-playing luxury items, a rechargeable battery pack isn't exactly an exciting proposition...but this item deserves your attention. Not only does it provide more than adequate playing time (25/30 hours, depending on where you read it) but this pack does the biz even with the rumble feature enabled on your wireless pad. The ability to play games whilst the pack is being recharged is a massive plus (it's no different to using the wired-pad variety during play, of course). But, best of all, it's a USB connection, so, if you're using your PC anytime, you can just plug it in and recharge whilst surfing the net...I do. You'll always know the state of your battery because a quick jump to the Xbox 360 desktop reveals a battery-charge indicator....so, you'll know when a top-up is required. In fact, that's my only minor gripe: the battery icon could easily have been quite a bit larger than the one Microsoft have given us. If you're thinking of buying the wireless pad, get this at the same time because it's nigh-on essential. Ordinary batteries, unsurprisingly, just don't cut the mustard: the savings you'll make on no longer having to buy'throwaways' will soon pay for the Plug & Play kit...so buy it! One question to Microsoft, though: Why on earth didn't you include the Plug & Play kit in your Premium Pack? Let's face it, if you're happy to shell out around £280 for the console, you're NOT going to argue about paying a few extra quid for what is a 'must have', are you? Summing up: A nice, functional piece of kit...5 stars.

5 out of 5  "The Single Most Essential Item For The XBOX 360" - 30 January 2006
This has to be the best item for the xbox 360 bar non.
It packaging contains a rechargable battery and a very long lead to plug into the USB port on the xbox 360 console.
It does not take very long for the battery to charge up and you can continue to play while it charges.
The battery will last from a full charge for around 25 hours.

very cheap and easy to use, hopefully there will be a version with longer battery life coming out soon

Does exactly what you need it to do, charges whilst you play and if you need to charge and go away then plug it in and turn the console off. Never broken down for me and always works.

5 out of 5  "Really cool!!" - 1 August 2007
Dont listen to people going on about how its just "a wired controller, wireless is the whole point"..... just see this for what it is... Picture this, and its happened to me, which convinced me to buy it, your in the middle of an online match on rainbow six, you spot an enemy and spring into action, pull the right trigger, your certain to pop the guy in the head, "please reconnect your controller".....and bang, your dead.... you try as hard as you can.. but nope... the controllers dead... so you have to swan off to get some batterys and get killed about 4 million times and just cant get back into it.... with this, you check your battery life... if its about to die.... then plug it in.. when its charged pull it out.... so its wired for about an hour tops.... so its not defying the point of having a wireless controller.... its defying the point of spening money of batterys.... how expensive are batterys by the way... scandalous!!!

It makes sense to buy it ...

Brilliant item, a must have for xbox 360 owners. Full charge lasts a long time, and you can even use the controller whist charging.

First off all people need to realise that everyone has their own opinion. So I wish people would stop trying to force theirs on the general public but anyway on with the review.

I personally think this piece of kit is a necessity for any gamer that plays for long periods of time, and also online. Just imagine your there playing Gears online with you quick charge battery pack or normall AA's and your about to pull of a wicked head shot with the sniper: "please reconnect controller" ....great, the opportunity is gone. You will then have to spend the next 5 mins looking for some new batteries OR wait a couple of hours for the recharge.

With the Play and Charge this is not a problem, simply plug it in and carry on your gaming.

I've seen a lot of reviews complain that you HAVE to be playing a game for the controller to recharge... err not true, i think they are mis understanding the product's name. play and charge means you CAN do both at the same time not you HAVE to. If you don't want to leave your console on while it recharges, you can plug the controller in with the xbox on, then turn off the console. The machine will go into a special stand-by mode where the controller carries on charging but the console is off. When the power pack is fully charge the console turns itself completely off. Job done.

4 out of 5  "Essential piece of kit for your wireless controller" - 30 October 2007
The first thing I bought after getting my Xbox360 premium pack was this pieced of kit. If you buy a wireless controller it often is only supplied with batteries so this is a worthy purchase. I think that it's much better than a quickcharge since even if it's as the battery is as flat as a pancake you can still play your game and charge at the same time.

Imagine if your mates are over and you've been dying to play in an online game or against him in the latest game and your battery is flat for your wireless. If you've got a quickcharge you've still got to wait until it has charged, but with this you can play straight away. It can also plug straight into your PC for the odd game too.

On a full charge you can get a good full 2 or 3 days of solid gameplay. Very useful piece of kit in my opinion.

5 out of 5  "great bit of kit" - 30 March 2008
some people on this page are saying it defeats the object of playing wireless, but if you had two wireless controllers you can charge one then play with it and while you are playing with the charged controller, charge the other one up. And when the one you are playing with runs out simply swap the controllers over. do you get what i'm saying????????

5 out of 5  "Nice charger kit as described" - 12 July 2008
Was using the AA along with the wireless controller when I bought the console, but don't really like to keep bunch of AA batteries, so decided to buy a rechargable battery. And this kit just came into my sight, the charger fits the wireless controller seamlessly and turns out to be a perfect wired controller which can be also used on my computer, I don't realy care about defeating the wireless concept, the charger can keep your controller working all the time which means you don't need to wait for even an hour, unless you don't care about the mone and have got enought batteris.

5 out of 5  "Got Wireless? Then get this wire!!" - 25 February 2006
Its a no-brainer really. If you have wireless contollers then get this. It comes of course with a rechargeable battery. If you have multiple wireless controllers then buy multiple rechargeable batteries. You will only need the one play and charge kit.

Playing whilst charging is made easy thanks to the exceptionally long cable.

5 out of 5  "A Handy Bit of Kit" - 20 December 2005
While rechargeable batteries last longer then this packs 25 Hour game play, this (for me) is a really essential bit of equipment. You can plug it into the front USB slot and into the controller and play while you are playing. This is a main thing for me as the controller gives you loads of warning that the battery is dying, giving you time to plug it into the console and carry on playing.

The wire is nearly as long as the xbox cable, giving you plenty of space.
