Editorial: In a nutshell: After a successful tour of duty on the current gen consoles Brothers in Arms returns in the ultimate WWII squad based shooter, set during the closing months of the war as you take part in the crucial Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands. The lowdown: Although there were many astonishing looking games at the recent E3 event this was for most people the most graphically amazing next gen game seen so far. The levels not only look near photorealistic but the game world is huge and almost completely interactive. The gameplay works in the same basic way as before, with an easy to use onscreen cursor enabling you to direct your men with a single button press. New movement types now exist though, allowing you to specify stealth or patrol postures depending on what you’re doing and how fast you need to move. The only problem is the enemy have the same abilities and their artificial intelligence is advanced enough to make proper use of them. Most exciting moment: Not only are the enemy intelligent but they’re also well trained, reacting just as a real German soldier would. They’ll hide in doorways, ambush at road junctions and even, in one memorable encounter, hide behind a washing line – where your only warning is from a Dutch civilian at a window above. Since you ask: Everything in the game is as realistic as possible with streets and house copied exactly from photos taken at the time, while all weapons and vehicles are modelled to work exactly as they did in real life. The bottom line: The most realistic WWII game ever – in terms of history, tactics and graphics. HARRISON DENT

"Multiplayer - stick to COD" - 3 October 2008
Not much to add from the other reviews, the game is very jerky in places and the controls are not smooth by any stretch of the imagination.
This game reminds me of an updated Medal Of Honor game, much better graphics, a squad system that sometimes is a help, sometimes a hinderance, but overall there is nothing new here.
To be honest i didnt expect anything original, if you buy a game like this you roughly know what you are getting. The reason i bought this was for the online multiplayer. If you are considering buying it for the same reason then dont. It sucks. Massive lag makes it almost unplayable, and it you were expecting a range of game modes ala Gears or COD, you will be disappointed. As far as i can see there is only 1 game mode, which is a round based raise the flag/defend the flag, with only a few maps. If you die you sit out until the next round, which makes an already dull and frustrating experience even more dull and frustrating. If online multiplayer is your thing then there are much better games already out or due to be released soon.
Im sure the lag issue will improve with time, as many games do, and they may well release more maps and game modes, but i havent got the patience to persevere with this game. A missed opportunity from the developers.

"Should have been released earlier" - 4 October 2008
its almost approaching two years now and ubisoft finally released hells highway. unfortunately the reason it took so long is because ubisoft wanted to 'perfect it'. it's far from it. this game is enjoyable if your relaxed and willing to take your time with it. graphics are good, dialogue is great and there's also individual storylines mingled into operation market garden along with bakers main story. the game you can tell is modelled on the series band of brothers (especially the colonel who i think is in both the series and this game). Cover system is good but it's not perfect.(it could also benefit from blind fire). once in cover its awkward to get out making it frustrating especially in the middle of a shoot out. as i said you need to be in the right frame of mind for this game, commands need to be thought out e.g. positions and when to fire etc... the game does allow the player to organise successfull killings (stealth) as i said it just needs patience. however the game does have a flaws in it's commands. now and again your troopers can run to your chosen position by running into blind fire or ignorin you (way around this is to have them follow you). as i've noticed on some reviews that say your troopers cant aim thats a lie. on several occasions i've accidently run towards enemy and as they've popped out to shoot me my troopers have taken em down (however your bazooka team are partial to the odd miss. way round that is re organise their position).it's all about positioning and patience.overall the game isnt a bad effort a few flaws and gameplay can be a bit rough at times but what it lacks in makes up for by rewarding patience and also cool kill shots. if you love to go gung ho then dont buy this game you'll find it extremely frustrating. however i do feel this game could have won more fans over if it had been released a lot earlier but never the less an enjoyable game. 7/10 i'd give it.

"Wait until it's in the bargain basket!" - 6 October 2008
Don't waste your money. Wait until it's in the bargain basket.
I agree with the BJ Hunt, Stefan and many others. Allied AI is shockingly poor. Enemy AI consists of bobbing up and down like one of those fairground games where you hit heads with a mallet. Game play is glitchy, for example; call your squad in when your in a corner and your stuck there until you order them away. Graphics not as good as I expected and jumpy at times.
The real kick in the B***s was theo online game; it's terrible. Get killed at the start and you spend the next 5-10 minutes spectating, and there's only one game type a hybrid capture the flag. Utter total cr*p.
I was really looking forward to this game and put up with the delay after delay on its release date. What a dissapointment. I'll hire or borrow any future releases to save me wasting my money.

"Prob better renting" - 8 October 2008
I have completed this game now and all i can really say is this game is quite good - well worth playing for the single player as there is some pretty intense action. Cut scenes are terrible - last gen graphics and poor lip-sync. Whatever you do don't put on the xbox live multiplayer. If you have COD4 you will laugh at this... Overall I wish i never brought it - £35 is a bit much for what you get and renting it for 2 days to complete is a better option.

"Ater the long wait!!!" - 8 October 2008
After all that waiting delays delays delays, I must say I was disappointed. not much more to add compared to the other reviews.graphics are good but i had expected more, the story line is way too long and sometimes very cheesy and boring. the really messed up with the control stick this time !. I am a great fan of the other Bother in Arms games, but if I knew the outcome of this one I would have waited and bought it second hand

"Awkward and a bit frustrating" - 1 October 2008
I am a bit surprised no-one has written a review of this yet!
I have played this for around 10 hours so far and am probably near the end, so here are my thoughts...
Graphics - they are quite good, but not as good as I was expecting given a few pre-reviews I have seen. They are better than in Mercenaries 2, but not as good as in Battlefield Bad Company.
Controls - for some reason they don't seem very intuitive. Getting into and out of cover is quite difficult and sometimes you end up standing up in the middle of a firefight and get yourself killed! Movement seems stunted and it doesn't really flow as you would expect.
Squad Based Tactics - This doesn't really work at all. Half of the time the squads don't do as you expect, and as the controls are awkward you do end up sending your men into the middle of a load of crossfire by accident, or you find for some reason they have ignored your request and are just following you around.
Enemy AI - the enemy AI is actually quite good. They will try and outflank you (sort of) and do respond as you would expect when you fire at them, or throw a grenade.
Squad AI - Absolutely terrible! When you order a squad to a position, be careful if you are in a building because they will take THE most convoluted route possible - in the process aggro-ing all the enemies andgetting themselves killed. I have found that in a building I tend to leave the squads in one place and take out the enemies on my own. Your squad are also the worse shots in the world! Don't rely on them to actually kill anything!
Acting - the voice acting is quite good (apart from the British guy who is absolutely terrible!), but the storyline is incredibly cheesy. Some of the cutscenes are quite atmospheric, but others seem rushed as if they were done at the last minute. The story is nowhere near as well done as Bad Company for example.
Conclusion - if you are looking for a freeflowing fast paced shooter, this is definitely not for you. If you like totake your time and are willing to put up with some stunted gameplay then it might be worth a shot. If this game had been a demo on XBOX Live, I probably would not have bought it (yet again I fall for the hype!). My advice would be to wait for a demo and decide for yourself.

"A mixed experience" - 25 September 2008
Well, I have been a fan of the previous two titles in this series to PC, but decided to get this game for my xbox360 to experience the highquality and smooth gameplay... so I hoped.
I have played it for about six hours now and its a mixed experience at best. Overall it seems a good game but...
1. the cutscenes (between the levels) are long, somewhat annoying, alittle confusing and runs in fairly low FPS(frames per second). If it had been on my PC I would have lowered the visual quality to avoid it, but alas; Im on a console.
2. The combat is a very cool and exciting acquaintance at first, but after having used the same basic tactic (supress and flank) 10-20 times in a row you get bored with the scenario. In many instances I simply charged head on just to get some vararity in the gameplay... Most often I get an unhealthy dose of led as a reward and have to start from the last checkpoint.
3. A small point, but I feel the controls are alittle off. Its just my personal opinion, but after playing BF:Bad Company this game's controls just doesnt seem as natural.
4. I love the TV series Band of Brothers, but Gearbox should do themselves a favour and realise that the players rather play a combat sequence in a game than seeing it playing out in a cutscene... and BiA:HH is NOT a valid remake of the BoB series and they shouldnt have attempted it.
5. Multiplayer doesnt seem to be running smoothly either. And it just seems that the only really important multiplayer option that could have been implemented, co-operative, would have been alot more worth while than team-deathmatch in its various forms.
Overall its a good game, but I don't really see this as a game I will return to again and again after having gone through the singleplayer campaign the first time. I'll properly sell it around the time Call of Duty: World at War is launched and use the money to finance that instead.

"The Road to Hell is Paved with Bad Gaming Controls." - 26 September 2008
Want to sprint? Don't make it easy like pushing the left stick fully forward... Oh no! We'll make you push 'A' as well so that you'll have no proper control over your movement - that's it so you can keep on running round and round that cover you wanted to hind behind like a dafty - giving the enemy some fun target practise!
What's that? When you'll behind cover you want to move along nice an' easy? Ops! Sorry we'll have you popping up and out of that cover just when you didn't want to! Bang, bang! You're dead.
See that wall in front of you? Now you'll need to jump over it real quick. Get ready to hit 'A' - that's it keep on mashing it like a dafty and watch as your feet stay firmly rooted to the ground as those pesky Germans take pot-shots at you!
What you want to shoot some Germans? I hope you've got some high-strength glasses to see the little blighters with - yes that's them off in the distance! Not a very good shot are you?
Well I suppose you're better than that bazooka team - at least you try... What's up with them, eh? Have they only got a few rounds or aren't they too sure on how to use them?
Why do they keep doing this on games of late? Ruining what otherwise would most likely have been some good, fun games... don't they have any play-testing anymore?
The way the controls work (or rather don't) on this one - is just so frustrating! There's certainly nothing nice an' smooth about the controls on this one... in fact they're HELL!

"brothers in arms;hells highway" - 29 September 2008
Well Hells Highway this is not. This is more of a hell for the players. If you have played cod4,gears of war,Fuels of war,etc then you will find this game a complete and utter drag.If only I could hit something when I shoot at it ,that would be a help.It can be very frustrating when your target is twenty feet away from you and he is hidig behind a settee of all things and you are spraying him with withering fire from a sten gun and he kills you even though you have cover twenty times better than he.The red screen which shows that you are taking damage overcomes you before you can sit up and aim.Yes the weapons are limited but one expects that since we are dealing with a wwii scenario, but given that no soldier would do battle without zeroing his weapons and his personal tool would be his until he fell.Throwing stones would be better. The grenades are like little bangers that have little or no effect. In all fairness the graphics are superb. The game lacks that bite that makes my hands sweat and makes me want to stay up all night. No when that red mist closes in on me I just switch off and go to bed.Call of Duty: World at War (Xbox 360)

"Please call me when you need to design a game...I will save you from launching a car crash like this" - 8 October 2008
I bought Brothers in Arms expecting a lot. But I was very disappointed, it seems to me that game developers are taking two steps backwards and designing games which are limited and seem to have archaic controls and commands. Call me people, please, I will help you make a game worth £39.00 that will stand the test of time.
Gameplay: Good at some points but they have created this annoying and over simple , unrealistic interface. If you are trying to make a game that has an element of realism then finish the job. Let me explain. You can aim with the weapon iron sites whilst you are stood up, duck behind cover and you can't use them. So in the most difficult level, you have no cross hair , no iron sites and just have to guess. Why not have a medal of honour or GRAW style interface when you can aim from behind cover, and have a fire blind option like GoW.
Why can't they include a waypoint creator in the map to send your teams to multiple locations. Like Rainbow 6 used to have years ago. The trouble is with point and click commands, like GRAW, you have to see your location to send people to it. So trying to flank is impossible unless you can actually see the full route ahead. Why not build a mode where you can plan what each team does (Very quickly of course) and then hit a button to perform that action, as well as the look and click mode for speed. Flipping heck that's got to be easy.
It's the little things like that which can make what could have been a good game, a complete waste of time and money.
Graphics: Could be better. Not great. Seen better in GoW and COD4. Again, with the engine and power available from the Xbox and PS3 you may as well take the time to make your game look good.
Storyline: Okay, just annoying. When you first play the game you are forced to watch cinematic sequences after every mission, which do on a little to be honest. I mean, in one, I got up, boiled a kettle, made a tea, sat down and the thing was still going.
Guys, Call me when you design the next one and I will make a game that will stand the test of time for you. Just 3 or 4 little tweaks, and I would have forgotten the over indulgent cut scenes, and poor graphics and would have given it 5 out of 5.
Gamers today are not mindless simpletons who can barely understand chip and pin. Gamers, have the ability to absorb information and handle complex interfaces. Just give us a little more meat to chew on. I have to say that if games don't start improving I'm selling the 360 and going back to Civilization on the PC.
