2 out of 5  "not the game i thought it was" - 16 February 2006
The Need for speed is good, but EA have lost track this time. The soundtrack is fine but everything else is below average. The career mode is very tiring and repetetive for example, you lose money for losing an outrun race. Challenges make you travel across the city, which is huge, within a small time limit. The graphics are average, but seem a rushed. The customizing options aren't huge either. Things such as the bumpers have been made from scratch, and so has everything else except from the rims. So overall, this is a very rushed game.

Need for Speed Underground 2 is the sequel to the best selling console game of 2003 and builds on the original hugely.

First off, the game is no longer menu driven as racers can now drive around a fictional city picking up races to fulfill a contract or races just to gain money.

The money can then be spent at a variety of places including Graphics shops (Paint / Vinyl / Decals etc), Specialists shops (Nydraulics / Neons), Body Shops (Spoilers / Roof Scoops / Rims etc) and at performance shops (Engine / Suspension / Turbo etc)

Then you are ready to race more and there are plenty of races to compete in, including StreetX (best described as racing on the drift tracks and its no holds barred), Drag Racing, circuit racing, sprint racing and also the previously mentioned drift races. There is also the new URL (underground racing league) races which consist of a number of circuit races.

Other racers can also be raced by driving close to them and pressing up on the D-Pad (much like flashing your light in midnight club 2). These races reward you with small cash but can sometimes help in getting unique parts for your car.

Overall - N4S-UG2 is a huge overhaul from the first Underground and isnt your typical sequal.

3 out of 5  "Good game, could be better though......" - 7 January 2005
i thought i was gonna love this game as the first one was brill!! i like all the races but the driving towards the races are just a waste of time. the selection of cars are ok but i thought there would be some supercars to unlock at the end such as ferrari, porsche or some other big names but they made the best car the subaru impreza!!! the upgrades dont really make any difference to your car but in the graphics shop the vinyls you can get look really cool but it takes some time before you unlock them so in the end the driving and the graphics are good, but really everything else in the game is just average but i would still recommend this game if you wanted a good driving game.

Well this is a very popular game, due to the franchise and advertising hype. It's a pretty good game to start with but falls down in long term gameplay. The career mode is the main game, you basically start off with a stock car win races to get cash to tune it up and get it looking decent. There is fun to be had changing the car in terms of visual customisation choosing colours, spoilers, alloys etc and becoming your own car designer. As you progress through you only have room for about 6 cars in your garage, 1 problem is that you can only earn enough money to really tune about 4 of them fully. Once you tune all the cars to the max they handle and perform almost the same, meaning you can stick with 1 car all the way through!
To complete the game you don't even have to complete all the races, about 70% will do, but you can select the other races after. However once you complete it, you won't probably bother to go through the whole career mode again. You can choose to do a quick race and choose your type of race from the start as well i.e. drift, drag, circuit etc. Here you can select your career mode cars, plain stock, or modify any of the cars as much as you like and choose them to race. Once the modifying fun runs out you won't play it much, but it is good fun while it lasts. Good graphics, sense of speed, pretty cool music and it is a big game. Depending how much cruising you do it can take a while to complete. One for race fans, and those with xbox live especially. 4 stars to start but novelty soon wears off.

This game is no different from N.F.S Underground!!!!
All same controlls!!! Only 5 new cars, no new modds to add on to cars!!! Really crap ingame movies, and annoying people featured in game!!!
May as well get the first one, its cheaper.......waste of my money!!! Dont waste yours!!!!!!

Only good thing is you can go fast and cool jumps!!!!!!!

I bought this game the day it came out as I had been waiting for it ever since the first game. Needless to say I wasn't dissapointed. Where else can you modify a Hummer with a full bodykit, neons, a customised trunk of ICE and suicide doors!!!! The gameplay is fluid and gives a real feel for what you are doing. You become immersed and will while the hours away tuning up your car to be bale to reach your next goal.

Overall an amazing game which should be in every collection

3 out of 5  "Burger king in a game that's "underground"?" - 5 January 2005
I am trying to be very carefull with my words as it's hard to critisize a game that is as widely acclaimed as nfs:Ug2

While I really have enjoyed playing with the huge amounts of car parts, vinyls and paints I really don't want to encourage EA to make games the way they are. It's more than cheeky the way they use NOS in a similar way to burnout and the attempt at free roaming.

It's all nice this on paper being underground and stuff but It's incredibly mainstream stuff.
It's more Chav culture than tuner culture. It has no cops, product placement and a playlist desperately trying to appeal to everyone with snoop dog remixing a song with need for speed obviousely mentioned. It's really annoying, especially with burger king even having an unlockable decal. I also don't apreciate being called "dawg" all the time by certain characters.

I'm sounding realy negative here aren't I? I shoudn't be, the choice of cars is fantastic, you start with a focus, early 90's corrola, 106, etc and move onto hardcore jap imports like supras and skylines. The new 350Z is there too. There's also A H2 Hummer and other OTT 4X4's to mod.

The racing is a little touch and go as the game engine doesn't have a solid feel and cars feel realy light especially during bumps with other racers round corners.

Still the game isn't bad, Out of the need for speeds it's not the worst (It's better than no.2) it's just the equivilant to swearing in a song so more people will buy it. There's also online play so you can show off your all rulling 1.8 corsa and listening to players wtf when you cream their beefed up evos and rx7's.

I'd defiantly recommend you to at least try this game and maybe cheat a little as the fun is in making ordinary cars look awesome.

I miss the good old days with beautifull supercars, country roads and cops with texan accents yelling "dewnt let mah caytch ya Speeeeedung agayen!"

i have gave this car 5 stars as it is probly going to be the best car game out this year. if you have playe the first need for speed undergorund you will understand why this sequal is accpected to be better. from previews this game has even more cars and more mods available so this game is 5 starts without even trying it.
