Editorial: The Locust Horde is back and only you and your squad of elite soldiers stand between them and the death of every human being on the planet Sera. In Gears of War 2, entire cities are being destroyed in single attacks, and you must take the fight to the Locusts by battling them in their own underground lairs.
You can play the whole of story mode with a friend
The Boomer enemies are back in many different varieties
The game’s ethos of “destroyed beauty” is still in full effect
Shoot the Ticker enemies before they explode in your face

The bestselling third-person shooter is back: bigger, better, and gorier than ever before. But you can't just blast your way through it--this game requires far more tactics and cunning than your usual mindless shooter. A refined cover system means you can use the enemy as “meat shields” as well as hide behind the fully destructible scenery.

The graphics are looking better than ever, and the game is purposefully more bloody and violent than before. The story and characterisation has also been improved, making this an action game sequel with brains as well as brawn.

Key Features
  • Brothers in arms: Have a friend join or leave your single player game whenever you want, and even battle together on different difficultly levels.
  • Evolving enemies: You finally get a chance to take down the giant Brumak enemies, as well as even larger monsters and new creatures, such as the explosive Ticker.
  • Practise makes perfect: Practice the multiplayer mode on your own with computer controlled “bots”--then use the new matchmaking system to find a real opponent of the same skill level.
  • Chainsaw massacre: If you loved the chainsaw bayonet in the original game, you now can duel computer or human opponents with gaming’s messiest weapon attachment.
  • Hordes of options: Try the new five-player Horde mode, where you all face off against an unending wave of enemies, or any of the seven other multiplayer modes.

5 out of 5  "Cant wait for LEGO Gears of War now!" - 15 August 2008
This game is the best game i have never played. I especially love chapter 3 where marcus and dom have to play against the Locust in a FIFA 09 type game of football to the death!!! Just cant wait to play LEGO gears of War now.

Seriously though how the hell can amazon allow reviews of un-realeased games.

5 out of 5  "UNRELEASED" - 29 May 2008
Amazon say they won't publish reviews for unreleased games... but you guys are still getting away with it.

Amazon, please disable the review system for unreleased products.

5 out of 5  "I'm pre-pre-pre-ordering GOW5 - but not before I review it." - 25 July 2008
Personally I am tired with plain old reviews of pre-orders

I can't wait till Amazon introduce pre-pre-orders. That way I can review a game that I havent played, before you can review its pre-order.

Please Amazon, see sense, enable pre-pre-orders and let us have a forum for rating something which technically doesnt really exist yet.

5 out of 5  "NOVEMBER 7th 2008 ARRIVES EARLY... NOT!!!" - 4 August 2008
Dear Amazon as this game has a universal release date of november 7th 2008, I like many other folks here, suggest that in order for people to obtain a more accurate analysis of items purchased, you should consider disabling the option to review unreleased products.

5 out of 5  "GOW 2......awesome" - 30 June 2008
I've played this game for a few hours now (.....in my mind) and i've gotta say it really is awesome (.....in my mind). Not only can you play as locust as well as marcus, you can play as rambo, captain america, iron man....you can even play as abe lincoln (.....in my mind).

The only downfall to this game is the fact that cos it's not out yet, i can only play this game....in my mind.

3 out of 5  "It's not as good as other not-released games." - 6 May 2008
I much preferred not playing Call of Duty 5 to not playing this, not playing GoW2 has left me feeling empty and not fulfilled at all.

That said, Gears of War 2 is much better than many other unreleased games but for sitting around and waiting I don't think it's a patch on Duke Nukem forever.

5 out of 5  "The best game I've never played!" - 3 March 2008
As soon as this game arrived through my letter box and I shuddered with excitement upon opening it, I knew that it was going to be special. All my family gathered around as i sat cross-legged on the floor, grin of excited anticipation on my face. My mother was most pleased - she neglected to pay the mortgage just so that I could play this game. She's since been locked away for failure to pay her debts, but at least she got to see me play through this it!
After 30minutes of "ooh"s and "ah"s from my family (my aforementionned mother, moustachioed father, grandpa (grandmama was dead) and my 8 brothers and sisters), I needed to make toilet, so rushed upstairs, praying with all my might that none of my filth-ridden sibblings had picked up the control pad (knew i should have got a wireless one, could have come to the outhouse with me). Anyway, 40 minutes later, I was back in the living room, sat on the end of my granpas' bed, killing locust hoards eagerly! After another 30mins, it became clear that I would never play Lego Bionicle or Prey (which I got second hand for £3) ever again.
Of all the new features in this game, my favourite is being able to kill every enemy on the game simoultaneously with one bullet. Its great the way you can throw deep fat fryers and toasers at the bad guys too, except when the locusts catch them and throw hot fat at you.
All in all, having played this extensively, I would give it 9/10, it's the best game I've ever speculated completely pointlessly and idiotically about.
I hope you've found this review even more helpful than the incredibly insightful ones already on here.

5 out of 5  "I felt like reviewing it to annoy people..." - 22 May 2008
As the title states, I haven't played the game, just seen the trailer, so i thought I'd give it 5/5 anyway.

Hope this doesn't help.

4 out of 5  "OMGWTFBBQ" - 6 May 2008
This game wasn't very fun to play due to not having been released at this point in time. My overall rating of it would have been 5 stars but not being able to play it or view it did detract from the enjoyment slightly.
