4 out of 5  "SR2 > GTA4" - 18 October 2008
Played saints row 1 and loved the online, single player was ok. Played GTA4 single player was ok, at best, online was terrible. (graphics and detail awesome though). Compared to these Saints Row 2 is the best of the lot. Gameplay is very good, level of detail is spot on. Graphics arent as good as GTA but better than saints row 1. Online is a bit of a let down up to SR1 as they have removed protect tha pimp and blinged out ride and introduced a game called 'strong arm' which is a multi changing online mode incorporating lost of mini games. There is also a deathmatch mode. The single player story mode is as varied as SR1 with lots of different game modes to increase your respect and then missions to take over areas and earn money. Things that let GTA4 down such as no base jumping, no planes, lack of side missions etc are all in this game. So if you are thinking of not getting it because its not as good as GTA then seriously give it a try. Once you get into it you will be hooked.

4 out of 5  "More Fun than GTA" - 21 October 2008
OK, it's simple...if you want a fun version of GTA than i recommend you buy this. Sure, if you want the "realism" of GTA then fine (because realism in our GTA games is want we want?). OK, going back to Stillwater after a couple of years may seem strange after the GTA-thing of always changing locations but it's changed a bit so ok. The addition of motorbikes, flying and boats is a welcome addition, but after seeing myself in a cut-scene dressed as a pirate i think they may have gone overboard with the clothes customisation (although my gang are all dressed as ninjas....which is nice).

5 out of 5  "Saints Row 2" - 23 October 2008
This game is amazing. Seriously.

I brought this yesterday after it was recommended highly by a friend, and i can't seem to have more than an hour break, I haven't been this addicted to a game seen San Andreas came out years ago.

It really is so good, and here's why;

Ultra Detailed Character Customisation
Detailed Customisation of ANY vehicle
Customisation of your safeplaces/cribs
Purchasing new cribs/buying clothes stores
Co-op available for anything
Easy Handling of the cars
Planes
Parachuting out of planes
Helicopters
UFOs (seriously)
Loads of weapons, from katanas and chainsaws to lock on RPGs and flamethrowers
Awesome mini games (there are loads aswell)
Great missions
and there is much more, just buy it and see for yourself

Now the game hasn't been made to be realistic like GTA4, for example the graphics aren't up to GTA's standards and I have come across some glitches and although this would usually mean that I wouldn't rate the game 5 stars and it wouldn't deliver the same excitement than what the game could if they weren't there, but saint's row gets away with it simply due to the fact that they are usually very humorous. This game has been made to be fun, not have the best graphics ever, it simply focus's on gameplay and it takes me back to when san andreas came out as I have already said but it just shows how long the gaming world has gone without such a gem.

Co-op is sensation, invite your mate in to help with any in game mission or side missions, and just to have so much fun.

So if you are after a game that is proper fun, and maybe thought GTA4 was a bit of a letdown. Come on what does anyone do after you have finished? Date your girlfriend? Go to play darts with your friends? Get out, you do that in everyday life. Instead, after finishing why not throw crazed fans of celebrites over a 200 foot roof, or join a fight club and whack people over the head with tv's, hockey sticks etc.

Get it, it is the most fun you can get out of a shiny disc for 40 quid.

Promise.

5 out of 5  "More fun than a drive-by shooting........." - 21 October 2008
First up, I never played the first Saints Row, so no comparisons from me about that one. Secondly, I have played GTA 4 so I can make the inevitable comparisons.

Before GTA 4 came out, I was so taken in by the immense level of hype surrounding it, and was expecting something that would blow me away (with an RPG). What happened was that it confirmed what we all expected deep-down, that nothing really new or original could be added to the series. The only thing they could add (or try to add), was a sense of realism. This is what, in my opinion, turned GTA from an awesome game into an ok game.

Saints Row 2 changes all that. One word sums this game up from start to finish, fun. Everything about this is about making sure that you, the player, has fun and doesn't have to spend hours driving around the map repeating missions every time you die etc. People have been moaning about the driving/handling in this game, but why? It's arcadey, and matches the game perfectly! If I wanted a realistic driving simulator I'd play Forza/Gran Turismo.

Graphics wise, ok, it's not as good as GTA 4, but again, so what! They're colourful and vibrant, unlike the drab gray-brown that was Liberty City. Glitch-wise, yes this game has glitches, but name one free-roaming game where there aren't any glitches at all. This is easily outweighed by the sheer number of improvements made in this compared to GTA:

When you die you keep your weapons, so no worrying about dying and having to re-stock your arsenal.
Once you put a car in your garage, it will always appear there, no matter where you leave it/what you do with it.
If you die during a mission, it doesn't re-set you back half-way across the game map to have to drive there again.
etc.

But without doubt, the highlight of this game is the co-op mode. Anything you can do in single player, missions, side-missions, whatever, can all be done in co-op. It also works extremely well, and runs very smoothly considering everything that's happening on the screen.

Overall, I believe this is the game that GTA should have been, as it shares much the same fun-ness of Vice City and San Andreas. If you want a serious, well-written gaming experience, then look elsewhere, but if you want to have fun and a laugh with your mates on the (frankly awesome) co-op, then this is the game for you.

4 out of 5  "As someone who has reviewed the game for real..." - 10 October 2008
Lots of arguments on this title it seems, but as a journalist who has played the full version of the game, I'll offer some thoughts.

The game has plenty of depth and an open feel to it, just as the original and its main rival, GTA do. However, because of the success of games in this genre, the ability to do much more with them is minimal. However, that doesn't spoil what is a really strong, enjoyable and lasting gaming experience.

The full customisation of a variety of objects and the interaction with the gaming world is a welcome feature, while the 18-certificate is deserved thanks to the adult nature of quite a bit of the storyline - but chances are that if you were buying this game you'd know that anyway.

If you love the GTA series then you'll love this game too. It actually feels better to play than GTA with umpteen vehicles and weaponry at your disposal, but in truth the two games look like a re-skinned title with minor tweaks.

For a game which will last longer than the day you buy it, you'd be hard-pressed to find something which better fitted the bill.

1 out of 5  "Stop reviewing it .. it's not OUT." - 31 August 2008
Why do you people feel such a great desire to see your name on the screen? That is the only reason I can think of for you reviewing AND 5 starring a game that hasn't even got a demo out.

For God's sake stop it .... wait til it gets released. You are just being misleading.

5 out of 5  "Going to be sweeet" - 13 April 2008
Just take a look at what Saints Row 1 offered us, now take that and combine with everything that was missing and you have this!
The Co-op story mode intrigues me the most, most comparable to that of Crackdown, think of the amount of times the AI buddies in number 1 got you killed, well now your friend can come in and show them how its done.
Boats, Planes and helicopters are added in to really add to the freedom factor.
The customization has been turned up a knotch, which i always look for in games.
I loved number 1, ill love number 2, the only thing that ever ruined number 1 was the people you meet on multiplayer.

3 out of 5  "For previous Saints Row fans only!" - 18 October 2008
Firstly, i loved the intro to the game. Nice to see a game which follows on from the previous game in the series. Fitted in perfect, and got me ready for what i thought would be a top class game.
Before i start, i feel its important to make this clear. We all have a biased opinion on "sandbox" games, which come out, and 100% we think " this is better/worse than GTA IV. I, myself think this, with any game ( i even compared bully to GTA :$ )
without trying to compare, to what is one of, if not best sandbox style game, there is a few problems with SR2.
After playing it 8 hours, i feel that the game is ridden with glitches. Pressing Y to get out of the car, when drivers door is next to a wall, the character appears at the front of the car. Not realistic, yeah?
motorbikes standing on their rears after wheelies, cars randomly appearing in the freeways, and yes, dissapearing.
Park benches, hydrants, signs, and people randomly appearing when driving.
the gameplay also is a let down. Its so hard to actually get respect, unless it is nighttime. I spend 2 hours riding around, getting respect. Lack of money/ammo meant i couldnt do the rival killing minigame.

good points is graphics. i feel that the moving feeling, in cars, running and bikes are second to non. also, new weapons, amazing! i spent ages running around with sledgehammer, and stun gun. good fun!

Overall, i feel that if you had SR1, and want to carry on the story, its a good buy. But if you want another "GTA IV", which compares to the greatness of it, then i would give it a miss.

5 out of 5  "Saints Row 2 - Review" - 20 October 2008
This game is in a league of it's own, the driving is easy. The overall gamplay is fun. The missions are varied. There are things to spend your money on, including tons of clothes, clubs, houses, apartments, cars e.t.c. This game is basically old school GTA with better graphics and gameplay. The controls are easy to use, after 5 minutes I was switching between 5 different weapons during combat! there are difficulty settings for this game, which means if you want a nice, fun and easy run through then select the easiest difficulty. Great Game.

4 out of 5  "saints row v gta" - 17 June 2008
obviously GTA IV is better than saints row but when you put all these new things in like helis and even PLANES you have to think that it can rival Grand Theft Auto IV!
