"yay red rings of death" - 31 August 2008
i bought my first xbox 360 on release date.Used excessivley for the past couple of months and got red rings of death. Ironically mine broke on the release date of this new 360. i managed to were it into the ground for the weeks to come and eventually i realised i needed another one. This looked like a good investment for 2 years before the new one is released. Anyway this is essentially the same product as the 20GB but has bigger memorey, quiter and has less overheating issues. So its immense online and the same as the ps3 offline.

"Great system, great value!" - 20 September 2008
Bought this for my son as he has been after a 360 for months. I was going to get the Arcade version when I found this for less money but with the 60Gb HDD (weird!). So went for this. Very impressed so far, great graphics, esp with HDMI (something I thought was just a marketing gimmick, but I couldnt have been more wrong!). Fan and DVD are virtually silent so not sure what other reviewers are on about. We also have PC's, old Xbox and a Wii and this is the best by far for gaming graphics (the Wii is still the best 'fun'!)
Buy one, and make sure you use HDMI, it is worth the extra beleive me!

"Unbelievable Value for money." - 16 August 2008
My brother just bought this new model and I have to say it is incredible value for money.
To think the wii is £20 more expensive and the fact you get a 60GB hard drive, HDMI connections, unbeatable processing power, a streamlined online service and a massive selection of games....
Seriously, if its a choice between the wii & this...

"Wow, it's so quiet!" - 17 August 2008
I got this to replace my Elite, and I just can't get over how much quieter it is!
When idle there is a very feint humming, but most importantly the DVD drive no longer sounds like a jet engine.
I did a bit of searching online and my console has Brushless fans, Lite-On/Philips DVD drive. Manufacture date is 03rd July 2008.
Really impressed!

"Excellent machine at a great price ESSENTIAL BUY.." - 15 August 2008
If you have the older 360 you will not believe just how quite and cool the new 175w 360s are(I had to check mine was on after being used to the earlier noisier model)
60gb is going to be an Ideal size to go with the huge 360 dashboard update coming soon that will give you many new things i.e being able to install complete games to the hard drive, 7 player party talk plus much much more.
If you have to mention any other rival console (Negative or positive)then you are not reviewing this product and you should make your point in a discussion at the bottom of the page.
Potential buyers should also be aware of reviews that also mention rival systems in a review and are probably best ignored and find Ones that just concentrate on the model you are interested in..

"Great Value" - 15 August 2008
Good to see the newer more reliable model with a bigger drive for the same price.
In response to a review saying "get a PS3 if you don't want online", I could not disagree more. Right now the best variety of games and the best version of most can be found on 360 (I own both and reckon that's thebest way if you can afford it). Fantastic games system.

"Nearly there!" - 21 August 2008
is essentially a very good piece of machinery. The games are awesome with a huge selection (family, adult, party games etc). The graphics are superb for something that does not boast to be HD (unless you own the elite version). I was tempted with a PS3 but having played on a friends numerous times, I must say I prefer the xbox. The PS3 is expensive and does more or less what the xbox does.
The one thing that does it for me however is the online play. I had the 360 for a year before i went online. I didnt think I needed to go online as the games were awesome on single player. How wrong I was. Online multiplayer is amazing and offers hours of fun.......be prepared to lose your girlfriend.

"Excellent Buy" - 25 September 2008
What can I say?? Excellent. Decided to buy this due to having the old Xbox, and now the price drop has happened, and also the new version has come onto the market. It's well worth the money. Not just for the good games, I have spent most of the evening messing round with the media connection, which hasn't been mentioned much on the reviews. Basically you can(if you have connected the to your home Pc network)enable media share on your pc, via the latest version of windows media player 11, which picked up my xbox straight away. I had to enable a couple of settings through my hardware firewall(port forwarding). I can now listen to and view my photo's from my upstairs PC, through my wireless network, downstairs on my TV. Great. Just off to find out what else this beauty does. And yes, the 360 is very quiet!!

"Very good" - 26 August 2008
The 360 elite and the 360 arcade were made in 2007 whereas the premium console was made in 2005 the elite and the arcade have newer components and breakdown LESS than the premium so therefore the new 60gb premium will have up to date components making it less liable to breakdown. So now on the all 360's should be more robust with less over heating problems. Hurrah!!

"HD gaming for £160...? You'd be mad not to pick this up..." - 21 October 2008
It's taken me a while to make the jump from my trusty PS2 to the current crop of consoles. For as long as I can remember the XBOX 360 and PS3 priced-out the average gamer - and the cost of software was simply too high.
I had hoped that having won the HD format war, Sony would get it's act together and lower the price of their next gen console. Then came the ludicrous withdrawal of support for PS2 games, more console variations than necessary, and the continued absence of killer games. Worse still, they stuck closely to pricing the PS3 at £300 and over.
I began to seriously look at the XBOX 360, and when the prices tumbled along with the cost of it's software, I decided to take the plunge. Buying this 60GB model was a great decision. Here's why:
- GRAPHICS: The XBOX's graphics are truly awesome. The XBOX is easy to develop for, and most games run at 1080i/1080p, whereas the equivalent PS3 title typically displays at a 720p maximum. For a more powerful machine that's shocking, and the XBOX's superior lighting and pixel shading means that it more than holds its own. Just check out the technology comparisons on sites like www.gamespot.com and you will see that the XBOX typically out-muscles the PS3 in the graphics department. Through the built-in HDMI connection the XBOX's graphics simply leap out of the screen.
- SOFTWARE: The XBOX 360 has a huge games back catalogue, and with retailers dropping the price of the games, now is a great time to pick up superb software at prices cheaper than a new PS2 game. When you can pick up innovative, platform specific classics like Gears of War and Bioshock brand new in a '2 for £30' deal, you instantly realise that you can cheaply and easily build a comprehensive next gen gaming library. Factor in the latest software from EA, Namco, and the acquisition of previously Sony-specific games like Devil May Cry, you have a winning combination.
- RELIABILITY / BUILD QUALITY: The console has been internally redesigned to improve reliability from the ground up. New chipsets are more efficient, and the heatsinks are kept away from the main part of the console helping to control running temperature and minimise failures. The console doesn't emit much more heat than the launch PS2's did. Yes, the fans are still noisy compared to other consoles, but this can be dampened considerably by placing the console horizontally on carpet or another soft surface. The wireless pads work flawlessly and are ergonomically excellent. In fact all of the peripherals feel well designed and sturdy.
- ONLINE: XBOX Live has online gaming and content delivery nailed. Sony's online environment may be more aesthetically pleasing, but Live has pitched the experience to perfection. The only downside is that online connectivity is required to download console updates that enable certain games (FIFA 09, NHL 09 etc). That assumption is annoying, but the speed and ease of connecting to XBOX Live makes running updates a breeze.
- VALUE: You can't fault this. Quality games, major developer support, affordable software and a wealth of downloadable content. Add a comprehensive warranty into the deal and you have a compelling package. This is exceptional value.
PS3 advocates will no doubt point to their console as the one that will mature with age and eventually yield the best gaming experience. But right now the PS3 is an expensive and poorly utilised alternative, with only the integrated Blu-Ray player and marginally superior build quality to recommend it. By the time it is ready to come into it's own, the PS3 will no doubt face competition from the next creations by Microsoft and Nintendo. Sony have scored a bit of an own goal with their system, and in an effort to win the console war Microsoft have taken the upper hand with this little beauty.
If you want an affordable next gen gaming experience, with arguably the best support and visuals currently available, then you would be mad to ignore this. I couldn't let this pass me by, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
